Extended Producer Responsibility

Producer responsibility applies to approximately 50,000 Finnish manufacturers, importers and packers as well as distance sellers.

Legislation

The Waste Act stipulates that companies subject to Extended Producer Responsibility are responsible for the management of the waste from products they place on the market when they are no longer in use. Under Extended Producer Responsibility, the recycling and disposal of end-of-life products is free of charge for consumers. Extended Producer Responsibility includes manufacturers, importers, distance sellers and packers.

In addition to the Waste Act, Extended Producer Responsibility is regulated by EU regulations, which are binding in all EU countries. There are also other national regulations.
