The Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change

The goal of the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change is to increase understanding of climate risks and develop adaptation measures, particularly at the regional level.

The missions within the Horizon Europe program are the European Union’s way of implementing and funding research and innovation. These missions are large and ambitious initiatives aimed at finding solutions to global challenges.

The European Commission has encouraged member states to promote mission work even with national resources. In Finland, a network collaboration for the mission on adaptation is being built: seven Finnish regions and four cities have signed the Mission Charter. Additionally, seven projects that involve Finnish partners have been funded within the mission’s work program.

What does the network do? 

The Network for the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change

• serves as a platform for domestic knowledge exchange and collaboration on planning, testing, and implementation of the adaptation to climate change.
• facilitates communication and faster information flow from research projects to municipalities’ and regions’ adaptation planning.
• develops collaboration on adaptation with the business sector and associations.
• helps domestic partners find funding opportunities for climate change adaptation.
• promotes the implementation of measures related to the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan  in regions and municipalities.

The Mission Network is open to everyone working on adaptation, including representatives from regions, municipalities, joint municipal authorities, welfare areas, research institutes, and other stakeholders. The network is also intended to connect with adaptation efforts in the business sector.
